Description

We have chosen to specialise in Shiraz, a variety that is ideally suited to the lower reaches of the Strathbogie Ranges. All our vines are hand pruned and grapes are hand picked from the best parcels in our vineyard.

The grapes were fermented in open vats in the traditional method, and matured in French and American oak.

Viticulturists Leon and Rosie Garner

Winemaker Lindsay Brown

The first vintage was picked in 08 and has almost sold out. It has won 4 awards and continues to improve and delight.

2009 is the product of that incredibly hot summer producing exceptional colour and flavour; it picked up an award in it's first month of release.

2010 was a challenging year with very testing weather conditions towards the end of harvest. We decided not to make a Shiraz as, in our opinion, it would not be up to our expectations. If the wine is not going to be brillant, we won't make it. However we did produce a truly superb Rose.

2011 has all but defeated many wineries in Victoria with very wet, humid conditions and lots of downey and powdery mildew all but wiping out the vintages. However, we have a very full crop of healthy fruit, mainly due to our constant vigilence, and look forward to watching this mature in new and second year French Oak.

2008 tasting notes

Medium-bodied with nice spicy/savoury characteristics. Hints of berry and plum, young and fruity. Soft tannins rounded off with well balanced oak. A nice soft wine to enjoy now until at least 2014.

2009 tasting notes

Mid to deep red, quite dense with purple tinges at the edge. Ripe, estery "sweet" berry fruit on the nose with cherry and plum aromas along with spice, a hint of pepper and some charry oak.

The wine attacks with loads of blackberry fruit, shows good mid palate concentration and length and finishes with ripe, rather firm tannins.

Drinking well now and will intensify in flavour and smoothness. Great til at least 2019.
